Do you accept used medical equipment?
Yes. We accept up-to-date eye related equipment in good condition. We do not accept broken or antique equipment. We desire to work effectively when we operate the eye clinic. Some of the most common donations are eyeglass frames (new only), readers (new only), finished ophthalmic lenses, eye diagnostic and optical lab equipment in good working order, and all eye treatment related pharmaceuticals, including oral antibiotics. We always need finished ophthalmic lenses and new eye glass frames. Please direct questions about equipment donations to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Do you accept personal unused prescription medication?
No, even if they are unopened. We do accept pharmaceuticals directly from manufacturers.
What does it cost to go help with a medical clinic?
Basically air fare and food. Airline tickets range from $550 to $950. You take food with you - things like tuna fish, PB&J, crackers, dried soups, trail mix, beef jerky, fruit roll-ups, pop tarts for breakfast, etc. Use your imagination! Anything that does not have to be refrigerated is okay for food. We drink bottled water and get it down there. Propel powder packets are great to add to the water. $100 for your food would be generous. You won't eat as much as you think. You will be busy and it is hot,
Where do we stay and sleep while there?
Air mattress, sleeping bag or sheets, a tent, and ear plugs make the floor very comfortable. We do have power where we sleep and the building is very nice. There is running water for showers, but no HW heater ; ) . Makes for quick showers, but they actually feel quite good since it is so hot.
May I use airline miles for travel?
Yes, you may secure your own ticket using your miles, but we ask that you travel on the same flights that the group is using. Arriving at different times presents logistical difficulties for customs and travel to the church that is 6 hours from the airport. Yes we are in a remote area! : ).
